Okay so Jeff and I recently watched the new Pride and Prejudice with Keira Knightley and then last night we stayed up til 1:00am watching the six tape Collin Firth Pride and Prejudice. And had a fairly heated discussion about which one was better. Jeff thinks the new one is better (I think it is because he thinks that Keira knightley is cute), he also says that it makes you feel more emotion than the old one does.
So which one is overall better? Leave comments here.

I've never seen the long one BUT I feel like one thing is missing in the new one - the process of Darcy falling in love with her. It just happens so suddenly! Just my two cents.
the old one is better--hands down!
I'm a big fan of the Collin Firth version...I didn't dislike the newer version just liked the A&E version so much MORE!
Collin Firth. Tells the story WAY better. Read the novel after having seen the movie, and it made me love it even more.
Being a self-proclaimed Jane Austen fanatic, I think that my opinion in this matter is needed, so here it goes. I like both movies, for different reasons. When I first saw the new one I really didn't like it, but the more I watched it the more I grew to appreciate it for what it was. It is artistic and a little more true to what Elizabeth Bennett's life probably was. I like the girl that plays Jane better as well. I also love the music which I think helps contribute to the emotions that Jeff was feeling (what a sensitive guy). However, it completey screws up the story and misses a lot of the humor and wit that Jane Austen has in her story. Which is why I love the A&E version. It is so true to the story line and while they still leave some of it out they did a much better job. Of course they had 6 hours in which it do it. Maybe that's another reason I don't like the new one, who's ready for it to end in 1 1/2 hours? Not me. Does that solve the argument or just confound you both?
Wow, I'm surprised at how many people like the long one. I kind of did because it followed the book exactly, but I'm not going to lie: the mom's voice was annoying and Jane wasn't pretty enough.
What I like about the new one is that there is actually emotion. I don't know if the long one just has bad acting or what, but I felt that the 6 hour version still failed to truly develop the characters because the audience didn't connect with them as much.
They said all of the lines straight from the book, but it seemed more like reciting lines rather than playing the character. I don't like how the second one is so short and how it doesn't play every part or follow the book exactly, but I do like it better.
My Jeff hates them both--it's a movie I have to watch alone when he's gone because he really doesn't like it.
Wow, long post. This is a much more interesting conversation to have than studying high blood pressure...
Ok I am going to be lame and join Jeff's side, since I have not read the books or watched the older one. my husband said he likes the old one though. Sorry we aren't much help with our votes!
I love the long Collin Firth Movie. After I had my back surgery, this is one of the things I watched while laying in bed for weeks recovering(along with all the seasons of Gilmore Girls, and hours of hgtv:)And it obviously gets you more involved since it is soo much longer. I think the new one is just more recent, which gave it a more up to date look and appeal...? But definitely the long one get's my vote.
Keira Knightly has a weird face contortion kind of like Sean Connery. I've only seen each one once, but I think the longer one is better. The mother in that one (the crazy lady) is hilarious!!!
